Is anyone else inspired to write by listening to music? Playing classical music just helps the ideas flow. And I always listen to Beethoven when I'm writing angry dialogue in a screenplay.

Write the script of a song as your imagination sees it. There is always a way to see a story in the words as the song writer intended, and to use that as inspiration. Van Morrison is a perfect example of using the story behind the words and the muse needed to inspire the story. The visual of the story can be crafted to further your story line.

Music always makes me feel inspired. Especially classical music and jazz. I like to have music playing quietly in the background when I write. It relaxes my mind, which allows me to be more creative.

With some music you like playing in the background, think of something you have seen or heard that day. Then think "what if this would have happened or that?"

Using a pen and paper before I read the paper or listen to the news, I sit and write whatever comes to mind. Often a poem or story idea pops onto the page. I got this technique from reading Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones.

What I do is I take my iPod with me if I'm going somewhere and somebody else is driving. I will stare out the window as the music plays, letting my mind get lost in itself. My characters take over, doing things that I normally wouldn't have imagined them to do.
