What an amazingly honest and lovely memoir this is. You capture the reality of that time with your Grandmother so well that the reader feels he is right there with you. And even though, as you say, we now know that cigarette smoke is harmful, yet your strong emotional response to your grandmother (and the related scent of the smoke) is so positive that no one can react anyway except positively. Personally, I have very bad memories of cigarette smoke, so the fact that I respond to this memoir so positively is proof of your gift for writing and sharing on an emotional level.
